 | Gocheganas
Located just outside of Windhoek, this was our first lodge. We went on
game drives, but could also walk the property of this private reserve and
approached quite close to the rhinos and the giraffe, before one of us would
beat a retreat!
|
 | Ongava
Located just south of Etosha National Park, we viewed abundant game at this
reserve. No walking here, however, as there were lots of lion. One
night we spotted a pride of almost 20 at the water hole.

Ongava at Night
We stayed in the hide next to the water hole to capture these photographs
|
 | Etosha
Etosha Nation Park is one of the world's greatest conservation areas.
One entrance was adjacent to our lodge at Ongava, so our guides drove us into
this reserve.
|
 | Damaraland
The landscape of Damaraland reminded us of our visit to Sedona and is home to
desert-dwelling elephants. We stayed in tents, but luxury ones, complete
with running water and en-suite flush toilets!
|
 | Flying
We traveled between resorts in small planes, Cessna 210s, with just the two of
us and the pilot. Most of these photographs were taken as we flew from
the Skeleton Coast to the great sand dunes of the Namib. We think many
look like paintings.

 | Sossuvlei
-- The Dunes
These are spectacular, measuring up to 325m (1066 feet) in height. We
arrived early in the morning when the shadows are at their best and the air
cool for our walk up (and run down) one of the biggest dunes.

Sossuvlei Mountain Lodge
There is less game here than in the north, but the views are beautiful, the
rooms very comfortable, and the hospitality outstanding. Besides taking
us to the dunes (above) they also offer game drives and even got us driving
across the (smaller) dunes on quad bikes.
